Federal Government Ready to Dispatch Dozens Federal Agents to San Francisco

The White House appeared poised on Wednesday to dispatch scores of government officers to the San Francisco Bay Area for a large-scale border security initiative, sparking outrage from California leaders.

Information of the Operation

Specifics of the deployment were continuing to unfold, but it will reportedly include approximately 100+ law enforcement personnel, as reported. The personnel are scheduled to begin utilizing the military installation in across the bay, opposite San Francisco. It was not confirmed whether military personnel would join the operation.

Political Backlash

The mission is the result of an extended period of warnings by the president to target the Democratic-run city. The state's leader Gavin Newsom criticized the action, labeling it “right out of the dictator’s handbook”.

“He dispatches unidentified officers, he dispatches customs officers, he deploys immigration officials, he generates worry and terror in the neighborhood so that he can lay claim for solving that by sending in the state troops,” he declared. “This is exactly like the firestarter putting out the inferno.”

Municipal Planning

San Francisco is the most recent large urban area focused on by Donald Trump’s campaign of widespread apprehensions. The deployment is expected to trigger a standoff between the federal government and city officials who have committed to block militarized immigration enforcement in the city.

San Franciscans have been gearing up for months for Trump to make good on repeated threats to send troops to the city. At a Wednesday media briefing, San Francisco’s municipal chief reiterated that the city was prepared.

“Over recent weeks, we have been preparing for the likelihood of a potential federal deployment in our city,” declared the leader, explaining that he had enacted new policies on Wednesday to “enhance the city’s support for our immigrant communities, and ensure our departments are coordinated before any federal deployment.”

Judicial Background

In spite of court battles to operations in a number of cities, including Illinois, Oregon and LA, Trump has claimed “unquestioned power” to send the military forces in cities, referencing the Insurrection Act which enables presidents certain rights to send forces on domestic land.

Community Reaction

The governor, who was formerly as San Francisco’s city leader – had vowed to intervene “without delay” to a deployment in the city. “The notion that the White House can deploy troops into our cities with no legitimate cause grounded in reality, no supervision, no responsibility, no respect for state sovereignty – it represents an infringement on the legal system,” he said on Wednesday.

Local organizations, including advocacy organizations established during the first Trump administration, have prepared to quickly mobilize a mass rally in the city, as well as peaceful assemblies at community centers.

Local Effect

In San Francisco’s Mission area, a largely Hispanic community, elected official informed journalists last week she and her residents had been bracing for this moment. “The point that people stop going to work, when minority individuals cannot move about freely without the fear of government officers racially profiling and detaining them, the moment when families keep children home, are too scared to go to the grocery store or medical provider,” she said. “Our ongoing preparations in the Mission is fundamentally a halt the likes of which we have not experienced since the health crisis.”

National Guard Condition

About several hundred out of several thousand California military personnel remain federalized under an order from Trump. Approximately two hundred of them had been transferred to the neighboring state, where they were waiting in limbo amid a court case over their deployment.

This time, Newsom said he had summoned the local soldiers under his control to operate charity kitchens during the administrative stoppage.
