The French PM Quits Following Barely Three Weeks Amidst Extensive Criticism of New Ministers

The French government instability has intensified after the recently appointed premier suddenly stepped down within a short time of forming a government.

Swift Resignation Amid Political Instability

France's latest leader was the third PM in a twelve-month period, as the country continued to stumble from one government turmoil to another. He resigned a short time before his first cabinet meeting on the beginning of the workweek. The president received the prime minister's resignation on the start of the day.

Intense Criticism Regarding Fresh Cabinet

Lecornu had faced intense backlash from opposition politicians when he presented a new government that was mostly identical since last previous month's removal of his preceding leader, his predecessor.

The announced cabinet was controlled by the president's allies, leaving the administration largely similar.

Political Response

Political opponents said Lecornu had stepped back on the "significant change" with past politics that he had pledged when he came to power from the disliked previous leader, who was removed on the ninth of September over a suggested financial restrictions.

Future Political Course

The issue now is whether the head of state will decide to terminate the legislature and call another early vote.

Jordan Bardella, the head of the far-right leader's political movement, said: "There cannot be a restoration of calm without a return to the ballot box and the parliament's termination."

He added, "Obviously France's leader who determined this administration himself. He has misinterpreted of the current circumstances we are in."

Election Calls

The National Rally has demanded another election, thinking they can boost their representation and presence in the legislature.

The nation has gone through a phase of turmoil and government instability since the president called an inconclusive snap election last year. The legislature remains split between the three blocs: the left, the conservative wing and the moderate faction, with no clear majority.

Financial Deadline

A budget for next year must be approved within coming days, even though parliamentary groups are at odds and his leadership ended in barely three weeks.

Opposition Vote

Factions from the progressive side to conservative wing were to hold discussions on Monday to decide whether or not to support to oust Lecornu in a no-confidence vote, and it appeared that the government would collapse before it had even begun operating. Lecornu apparently decided to leave before he could be removed.

Cabinet Appointments

Nearly all of the key cabinet roles declared on the previous evening remained the same, including the legal affairs head as judicial department head and Rachida Dati as cultural affairs leader.

The position of economic policy head, which is crucial as a divided parliament struggles to approve a spending package, went to Roland Lescure, a Macron ally who had earlier worked as business and power head at the beginning of his current leadership period.

Unexpected Appointment

In a unexpected decision, the president's political partner, a government partner who had served as economic policy head for multiple terms of his leadership, came back to government as national security leader. This infuriated leaders across the political divide, who viewed it as a signal that there would be no questioning or change of the president's economic policies.
